About Me

My name is Haidi Jenkin and I started creating Bonsai Science in June 2022, it launched in January 2023. I had been trying to work out the best way to inform myself about plant biology so that it could help my bonsai practice. After considering various options including going back to uni and writing a book, I decided to create a website instead. I thought it might be a good resource for other bonsai enthusiasts like me who were trying to understand the science behind it all. As I’ve found from being part of a great bonsai club (Twickenham Bonsai Club), having fellow travellers can make the journey much more enjoyable.

A mea culpa – I don’t have a biology degree – I’m an electronic engineer by training and my day job is in cloud computing. These articles are a way for me to digest what I’ve found by reading books and research papers, and to work out what they actually mean from a bonsai perspective. I have been doing bonsai only for about 5 years or so, so I still have a lot of questions, and a lot to learn.

As for me, I live in the suburbs of London with my family, my dog and a growing collection of trees.
